Real Madrid emphatically ended their disappointing run of goalscoring
form by putting sorry Deportivo La Coruna to the sword in a 6-1
win at the Bernabeu.
Much has been made of Madrid's lack of goals under new coach Jose
Mourinho, with just nine scored in their opening seven competitive
games, but the floodgates were smashed open on Sunday night.
Cristiano Ronaldo netted first and last, with Mesut Ozil - his
first for the club - Angel Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain and an own
goal from Ze Castro completing the rout.
Depor, whose only goals in their last six league games stretching
back to last season came from two Andres Guardado penalties against
Getafe, pulled one back in the 78th minute through Juan Rodriguez
but they were already 5-0 down at that point and well beaten.
Despite the swirling rain and blustery conditions at the Bernabeu,
the home faithful were in fine spirits at the start of the match
following the news that arch-rivals Barcelona had been surprisingly
held 1-1 at home by Real Mallorca.
