Captain Antonio Lopez struck an injury-time winner as Atletico
Madrid fought back from a half-time deficit to defeat 10-man Sevilla
and record only their fourth win of the season.
Atletico had lost their previous home match 2-1 to Villarreal after
conceding a last-gasp goal, but the tables were turned this time
as Lopez headed home Simao Sabrosa's free-kick with virtually the
last touch of the match to help Atletico enjoy a flying start to
2010 after a largely miserable end to 2009.
The rojiblancos suffered their worst start to a league season in
56 years and were also dumped out of the Champions League at the
group stages, but victory will be a massive boost to the struggling
outfit, lifting them provisionally up to 11th in the table and five
points above the relegation zone.
