Two late goals gave Valencia an impressive 3-1 victory over 10-man
Sevilla and guided them back to fourth in the Primera Liga.
Julien Escude put the visitors ahead after nine minutes before David
Villa equalised from the spot on the stroke of half-time after Juan
Mata was fouled.
By this time Sevilla were down to 10 men as Claro Adriano Correia
was dismissed for a professional foul on Villa.
The game appeared to be heading for a draw until Fernando Navarro
handled the ball and Juan Mata converted the resulting penalty before
Hernandez Pablo rounded off the win with an incisive shot.
Not long ago Valencia won just two of 13 matches during a run in
which they were knocked out of the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Cup.
They had slipped to eighth in the league table, threatening their
chances of reaching the Champions League which is vital with the
club in serious debt.
However, they have since claimed successive wins over Racing Santander,
Getafe, Sporting Gijon and now Sevilla to head back towards the
top four.
