Real Madrid produced one of the most remarkable comebacks in their
recent history to move to within three points of Primera Division
leaders Barcelona after beating Getafe 3-2 following a breathtaking
end to their derby clash.
Madrid's title hopes looked to be going up in smoke when, with the
score at 2-2 and only three minutes left of normal time, Getafe won
a penalty in an incident that also saw Madrid lose Pepe to a red card.
But Javi Casquero's dinked penalty was saved by Iker Casillas and
then, as the game entered injury-time, Gonzalo Higuain slammed a
stunning left-footed drive into the roof of the Getafe net to earn
10-man Madrid an astonishing victory.
That triumph means Madrid have now taken 49 out of a possible 51
points and halved the deficit to leaders Barcelona, who face a tough
home match against Sevilla on Wednesday.
