Real Madrid kept Primera Liga leaders Barcelona firmly in their
cross-hair after continuing their stunning run of league form with
a narrow 1-0 victory over Malaga.
Although they were unable to match the 6-0 trouncing Barca inflicted
on Malaga in the last round of fixtures, Gonzalo Higuain's individual
goal just after the break earned Madrid the triumph that keeps them
within six points of Pep Guardiola's men, who had beaten Real Valladolid
earlier on Saturday. Madrid's win means they have now taken 40
from a possible 42 over the last few months under new coach Juande
Ramos and, with nine games remaining in the season, look certain
to take the title race right to the wire.
