| Relive the magic of football genius, 'Le God', as he was affectionately
referred to by Saints fans. Matthew Le Tissier could use both feet
and, as well as his formidable record from the penalty spot, was
renowned for scoring spectacular goals.
Playing for a so-called 'small' club, coupled with the fact that
he wasn't too keen on defensive duties meant that he was largely
overlooked by England, when in reality his skills deserved a far
greater airing on the international stage. He eventually won just
eight caps for England.
In the end, Matthew Le Tissier played in 540 competitive games for
Southampton (443 in the League) and scored 209 goals. He successfully
converted 49 out of his 50 penalties.
